Young Bucks Draft Pick Tobias Harris Works Overtime
By Jackson B. Bucks Fan | Posted Friday, September 30
For those Milwaukee Bucks fans who were paying attention to this year's draft, many found themselves uttering the words, “Who the heck is Tobias Harris?”
Harris, a no-name freshman out of Tennessee, was picked nineteenth overall by Milwaukee earlier this year. Skeptics have been questioning the decision, and they make a solid argument. Only a year ago did Harris declare eligibility for the NBA draft. He has played just one year of college ball in Tennessee, and he didn't make a big splash in the program. What mad skills does Tobias Harris have to think that he’s worthy of joining pros at age twenty?
If you ask Bucks head coach Scott Skiles, he would say that the wisdom Harris brings to the court is above the level of what you would expect from such a young player. Skiles has never been fond of giving young rookies an abundance of time on the court. Harris should be expecting a long wait on the bench before he sees real action. With that, a good mental attitude is key to making his upcoming bench time worthwhile. Harris has what it takes to be a solid rookie.
Harris has a workout program that keeps him in the gym well past what is expected. He is one of those players that are first to arrive, and last to leave the court. His humbleness on and off the court is what brought NBA scouts to his door. His work ethic will certainly put him in a favorable position with the Bucks coaches. Cautious fans should be aware that Harris is a player who is dedicated to improving every aspect of his game. He looks for the smart shot, and usually makes it without any over the top tricks. His three-pointer needs some improvement, but in time he will be a tough opponent to guard. When he does miss the shot, he is fast on the rebound. In his freshman season he averaged an outstanding seven rebounds per game.
